Podiatry Services
Foot health is an important part of overall wellbeing. To support you, we invite you to book an appointment at ERA Doctors for a podiatry assessment. This service is for anyone at risk of foot issues, including diabetes-related problems, pain, or mobility challenges.
The goal of the podiatry check is to detect, prevent, or reduce foot complications early. It’s always better to act before problems arise. During your visit, we’ll review your foot health, lifestyle, and medical history to help identify any risks.

Common Podiatric Ailments :
Arthritis :
Arthritis is a prevalent condition that often begins in middle age, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness in joints like the ankles, knees, and feet. Symptoms include inflammation, morning stiffness, temperature variations, and flare-ups influenced by diet or inactivity. Overloading and repetitive movements, alongside tight tendons and ligaments such as the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia, can lead to compensatory mechanisms, joint instability, and toes deformation.
Causes and Contributing Factors:
● Overloading and Repetitive Tasks: Prolonged stress on joints.
● Ligament & Tendon Stiffness: for example, tightness of Achilles tendon forces
compensatory movements.
● Lifestyle Factors: Sedentary habits/long hours standing or certain diets
Ingrown toenails:
Ingrown toenails are a common foot issue that can affect people of all ages. Several factors contribute to their development, including:
- Wearing small or tight shoes
- Improper nail-cutting techniques
- Sweaty feet and hypermobility
- The shape and thickness of the nails
- Certain activities or occupations
- Trauma, genetic predisposition, and being overweight
However, many of these factors are secondary to the chronic or acute trauma caused by tightness in the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia. This tightness forces the foot into a compensatory position during walking, running, or even standing. It causes the foot to roll and apply constant or repetitive pressure to the corners of the nails (sulci). Over time, this pressure can lead to thickening of the nails and skin, particularly at the corners, eventually causing the nail to pierce the skin. This results in pain, discomfort, and sometimes infection.
Plantar Fibromatosis (Ledderhose Disease):
Plantar fibromatosis is a rare, benign fibrous tissue disorder resulting in the formation of nodules along the plantar fascia. The exact cause of this condition isn’t fully understood, but several factors might contribute such as Genetics (Dupuytren’s contracture), ongoing trauma or stress to the plantar fascia, health condition like connective tissue disorder (Peyronie’s disease) and more common in middle age, particularly men.
Podiatric Procedures:
Partial Nail Avulsion Procedure:
A Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) is a minor and simple surgical procedure used to treat ingrown
or damaged toenails. During the procedure, the
affected portion of the nail is carefully removed
to relieve pain and prevent further complications.
In some cases, a chemical (such as phenol)
may be applied to the nail bed to prevent
regrowth. The toe is numbed with local
anesthesia, ensuring a comfortable experience for the patient. Recovery typically involves minimal
discomfort, and most patients resume normal activities within a few days.
